I started knitting in November 2003 when I was 5 months pregnant and didn’t have the energy for anything else! I started off with lots of simple scarves and baby items and now I’ll knit just about anything. I’ve been spinning since Christmas 2005 and have two wheels to work with. I also recently learned crochet. You can email me at betty AT twmi DOT rr DOT com.

I learned to knit when I was eight, in order to earn the Knitter’s Badge in Brownies. I made a couple of poorly formed scarves for Cabbage Patch Kids and one ugly headband for my little sister. I didn’t pick up needles again for 21 years. I then produced several respectable scarves. Thanks to Beth (and Stitch and Bitch!) I have produced a few hats, learned many openwork stitches, and am in the process of knitting my first sweater. Hopefully it will only have two arms.

I’ve been knitting for a little over 3 years. I began by taking a one hour class at a yarn store in East Lansing. After finishing my scarf, I began teaching myself the rest using online resources and various books. I most enjoy knitting hats and sweaters and find that my addiction far outpaces my budget!

I have been knitting for almost two years and enjoy lace, especially shawls, and baby socks. I’ve been known to knit mittens, and love to do color work. Most of my knitting goes to my mom and my three lucky sisters and many of my friends and their babies.

I love to knit, but crochet is my comfort food. I wish I had awesome highlights like my avatar. I hoard Schaefer “Anne” sock yarn and love Knit Picks dp needles. Knitting keeps me from perpetrating bad découpage.

  1. Beads of Earth Scarf

    Hi Kristen,

I see on Ravelry that you made the Beads of Earth scarf and that it only took 2 skeins and not the 6 skeins that the pattern calls for. I just wanted to make sure I understood correctly – Is your scarf about 48” long and 6” wide? (Not that I think it has to be that long!)?

If it only takes 2 (or 3) skeins, there are more colors to choose from in Webs’ closeouts. Thanks

  2. This is for Betty. Where did you get the knitting basket that is shown in the photograph ? My wife bought one like it at a yard sale in Washington state about 3 weeks ago. Thanks W.K.H
