I hope this works!
So, since the our last trip to the dentist, we’ve been trying to get Ava to stop sucking her thumb. This has been quite a challenge. She doesn’t to it a lot anymore, but any time she rubs one of the dogs or is getting sleepy, in goes the thumb.
I suggested knitting a thumb cover for her and for some reason she loved the idea.

Instead of making progress on my many projects this morning, I decided to make the thumb cover. She has had it on since.
It has been working so far – who wants a mouth full of yarn?! Even if it is a lovely merino and cashmere blend!
UPDATE: It worked! She went all day and all night without sucking her thumb. And she was very proud of herself, too.

What an awesome idea. I’ll have to keep that in mind when I have kids.

That’s actually pretty adorable. If I knew any thumb-sucking children, I’d totally make them one.

Christina, make sure the hand-warmers you’re knitting for Emily have this feature.

What a creative solution! Too bad you weren’t able to get this into Knitty. It would be the perfect pattern for them. Quirky but practical.
too bad there’s not an equivalent for “binkie sucking.”

What a clever idea. It was a struggle to get my daughter to stop sucking her thumb. She was still doing it when she started school. Most difficult was nighttimes.

What a great idea!! My kids never sucked their thumbs but I have plenty of friends who have kids that do. Great job!
